This part of my blog will focus on the current presidential election. It will discuss polls, issues, and recap debates.

Immigration issues

Immigration issues hit close to him for me. My dad is an immigrant. He came to the U.S. over 30 years ago. In this presidential election, immigration is an important issue. Immigrants account for a good portion of our population. In a CNN poll, it stated that out of a sample of 601 Latinos they felt that Obama would handle immigration better than Mitt Romney.

President Obama’s immigration reform has caused him to gain some criticism from both parties.President Obama’s stand is giving those under 30 who may have made it through high school or earned an equivalent education and those who served in the military a path to citizenship.

Romney differs in opinion as he states that his main goal would be to build a fence on the borders as well as give people who served in the military and children who came at “no fault to them” a path to citizenship. Romney argued that Obama’s late response to immigration reform is “politically driven” because it just got attention this past summer.

I would have to agree with Romney on the fact that it should have received more attention during the first term of President Obama. However, I do believe there is a lot of corruption and under hand dealing that goes on at the border. Putting an improved border may not stop illegal immigration. I think they need to talk more with Mexico and come up with better ways to handle the border issue. What do you think?
